WCA emphasizes the right of people with physical, sensory or neurological disabilities to be free from discrimination in housing, employment or other major life areas because of their disability and to obtain the community services necessary to be independent. We provide advocacy assistance, referrals and, in some cases, legal representation, to individuals who are, or might be, treated unfairly in various critical situations.
Examples of situations where WCA provides advocacy services:
- For someone moving out of an institution back into the community, help in getting the assistance and support they need;
- For someone being abused, neglected or taken advantage of financially, whether in or out of an institution, help in putting a stop to these harmful actions;
- For someone who experiences discrimination and faces other barriers to housing, employment, transportation, access to public spaces, and government programs and services, help to know their rights under the law and become a self-advocate.
All individual advocacy services are provided free of charge.
