  • An individual's move from an institution back into the community;
  • The educational and mental health needs of a child being moved from an institution or residential placement back into the community;
  • Appropriate and adequate mental health services for persons with mental illness in community settings;
  • Persons experiencing discrimination or facing barriers in housing, employment, transportation and benefits.
  • Appropriate and adequate mental health services for persons with mental illness in the criminal justice system;
  • Abuse, neglect and violations of an individual's rights in institutions and residential settings;
  • Improper or restrictive placement, denial of right to community alternatives.

All individual advocacy services are provided free of charge.

WCA also helps consumers and family members learn to advocate for themselves through a Community Mental Health Protection and Advocacy Project. The Project provides individuals and groups with information and training they can use to demand more responsive community mental health services. Contact WCA for more information.
