How do I choose a prescription drug plan?
In Wisconsin, there are 45 different prescription drug plans offering stand alone prescription drug coverage under Medicare Part D. (There are many more plans that offer prescription drug coverage under Medicare Advantage Plans.)

There are search tools available at www.medicare.gov where you can search for plans that work best for you based on a list of prescriptions and dosages, cost, and pharmacy access.

These tools are:
  • Landscape of local plans: At this link, Medicare Part D prescription drug plans are "PDPs," you can get a one page chart comparing plans
  • Compare Medicare prescription drug plans: a person can do a personalized search and check on their extra help status; on Nov. 15th a person can enroll in a plan at this site
  • Formulary Finder: searches through all plans in Wisconsin PDPs (prescriptions only) and MA-PDPs (Medicare Advantage Health Plans) based on a list of medications and dosages
The materials below will help give an overview of the plans so you better understand how to use the tools available at Medicare's website.
